The qualified pathologist will serve as Medical Director for Clinical Pathology Services and is expected to provide clinical services in the core lab, surgical pathology and transfusion medicine. He/she is expected to sign out peripheral blood smears, body fluid slides, serum and urine protein electrophoresis and immunofixation, platelet aggregation and coagulation consultations and surgical pathology cases. Clinical Laboratory services includes core laboratory, point of care testing, intraoperative satellite lab and outlying affiliated laboratories; and the transfusion medicine services include blood bank, therapeutic apheresis services, stem cell processing and blood donor services. The Medical Director of the Pediatric Heart Program of Inova Children’s Hospital is responsible for assisting the Chairman in providing medical direction and leadership to promote optimal quality of care delivered by the members of the Department of Pediatrics and other departments within the hospital serving pediatric heart patients.  This role will lead the Inova Children’s Heart Program, in partnership with the Medical Director of Congenital Heart Surgery. The role will serve as the Medical Director of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. In this role, this individual will partner with the Director of Congenital Cardiac Surgery to lead efforts in quality improvement, quality assurance, and development/implementation of pediatric clinical programs within the pediatric heart program. This position with be the leader responsible for all quality, growth, and service initiatives and implementation for the pediatric heart program as well as all multi-department pediatric cardiac initiatives, implementation and operational issues. This individual will also work closely with leaders of key inpatient clinical groups to implement hospital initiatives in a feasible manner.  This individual will report to the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, additional leadership oversite will be provided by the Physician, Chief Executive Officer of the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute. Qualifications: Licensed as a physician in the Commonwealth of Virginia Board certified in pediatric cardiology or pediatric critical care, with cardiac intensive care experience. Preferred dual board certification in pediatric cardiology and pediatric critical care. Effective communication skills to facilitate high quality interactions with physicians, patients, nursing and ancillary staff, hospital administrative leaders, and the general public. Significant pediatric cardiac experience. Experience in program leadership with previous employment.
